Poland among biggest spenders in EU
May 2012

Poland has spent over zł.200 billion in EU funds in the last five years, which amounts to three quarters of the EU funds allotted to the country in the 2007-2013 budget. This makes it one of the biggest spenders of EU money in the bloc, reported Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.

From the beginning of 2007 until March 31, 2012 nearly 70,000 agreements were signed which resulted in projects in Poland being awarded EU funding.
The largest amount, over zł.3 billion, was spent in the Mazowieckie region. The majority of the money has been used on projects, such as infrastructure improvements, and grants for businesses or educational institutions, aimed at helping Poland to converge with Western Europe.
After 2014 the EU will focus on financing projects promoting innovation, energy efficiency and entrepreneurship.
